The Escapist

This week is the week to listen to old music for me. Ehh, just go with it…

The Yardbirds featuring Jimmy Page. The Yardbirds would later become Led Zeppelin in 1968 and featured rock’s three greatest guitarists; Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page. Jimmy Page took control of the band after Jeff Beck left. When the band disbanded, Page called it the New Yardbirds and gathered up Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham. Shortly afterwards the band became known as Led Zeppelin. This particular song, “Stroll On,” is a redone version of the popular Yardbirds song, “Train Kept A’Rolling,” and recorded for the film “Blow Up” (which I have not seen). Obviously this clip drips with 60’s, which makes it so good.

I love this song. Without a doubt George Harrison is my favorite of the Beatles’ solo careers. One of the singles off of his debut album “All Things Must Pass,” this is perhaps Harrison’s most popular and recognizable songs.

There is so much win with this song. Just listen and see.

Hokay… So….

It certainly has been a super long time since I’ve rock and rolled. Jk. Bah-dum-psh

I logged in after not touching this blog for some time now. And to my surprise. No one else looked at it. Ok so maybe I’m not surprised, but it’s whatever.

SOOOOOOOOO I’m going to be doing the whole music-blog-deal. If you guys have any suggestions of music you want me to look at, review, or rip apart, then send them my way and I’ll try my best to take a gander.

Swag.

So if you read this blog and were expecting this weeks schedule, then I apologize that I have been unable to keep up with this week very well. Exams are killer. So expect this weeks plan to be pushed back to next week. In the mean time enjoy this video by the Morning Benders. This really cool because this particular recording they filled a room full of people to record this song. It sounds very loud and full. Very cool. Enjoy!

Next Week…

Be prepared for next week guy and girls…

On Monday I’ll be releasing a new article on Wilmington local band, Rio Bravo

On Tuesday I’ll be reviewing the two new CDs released that day

And on Wednesday I’ll introduce a cool band called We Barbarians

Be sure to tune it. Get Excited!

Band of Horses at Raleigh

On April 23rd I was able to go to Raleigh and see Band of Horses at the Time Warner Music Pavillion. Now it wasn’t a simple I bought tickets and went. No no… it was even better than that.

So I log onto Facebook when I noticed Gravity Records posted an update that said “The first person to call the store gets two free tickets to Band of Horses/Widespread Panic tonight.” They had posted it about two minutes after I read it, so I figured I would try my luck and call them. I dialed the number and they answered the phone. And I was the first person to call. So I got them. Super awesome, right? I know!

So I had two tickets to see this band that I got for free. My friend Madison and I drove up to Raleigh to see them perform. They were awesome. The most impressive member was the singer. His voice was exactly like it was on the albums. They played both of their most popular songs, “No One’s Gonna Love You” and “The Funeral.” Both Madison and I were late so they may or may not have played my favorite Band of Horses song, “Detlef Schrempf,” but regardless they were great.

We left after they played. We really didn’t want to stay for Widespread Panic. Honestly I didn’t care to see a band of hippies. Both of us did manage to get Band of Horses t shirts, which is awesome.

So this post is rather unexciting, but I’m taking this as an opportunity to tell a short story about how I got free tickets to a concert. Band of Horses is great and so was the concert. Check them out.

PS: Be on the look out for an article on an awesome Wilmington local band…

So much soul. The Black Keys are a blues rock duo from Akron, Ohio. With five albums, two EPs, and a rap rock collaboration called Blakroc under their belt, their latest one produced by Danger Mouse (you may know him as the other half of Gnarls Barkley), they produce incredible low-fi blues rock. What give them that soul? Well it has to do with Dan Auerbach, the lead singer and guitarist, whose voice is perfect for the blues, showing the passion and the heart ache that comes out in the songs. They are a great little indie band, recording and producing most of their own albums. Check out their albums Thickfreakness, which was recorded in just 15 hours in a basement, and Rubber Factory, which was recorded in an abandoned rubber tire factory in Ohio. Be sure also to check out their sixth album, Brothers, coming out May 18th, featuring this song, “Next Girl,” and their single, “Tighten Up.”
